Industry Update: CMS Announcement

On July 9, CMS announced a Proposal for the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Model (CCJR), which would institute mandatory bundled payments for the Total Joint episode of care (DRGs 469 and 470) in 75 select Metropolitan Service Areas across the country. The program would begin on January 1, 2016 and last for 5 years, representing Medicare’s first major mandate in achieving its goal in shifting towards Alternative Payment Models (APMs) (30% payments in APMs by 2016, 50% by 2018).
