Our Story/Our History

In 2010 Stryker recognized the changes in Healthcare on the horizon and the need to be at the forefront. Stryker established the Performance Solutions division to bring expertise and focus to healthcare reform and to make healthcare better.

In 2011 Stryker acquired Marshall | Steele, an organization whose patient-centric care approach helped customers establish best practice protocols, enhance care team coordination and collaboration, measure outcomes, and deliver results. Since 2005, Dr. Steele began formulating his approach as a renowned orthopedic surgeon in Annapolis, Maryland, developing nationally recognized specialty surgical programs and a passion for defining, measuring and improving quality. Building on the model Dr. Steele and his team developed, Stryker Performance Solutions is still transforming traditional orthopedic service lines into Destination Centers of Superior Performance® today.

Stryker acquired Comprehensive Care Solutions in 2012 to bring additional expertise and resources to fuel their growth. Comprehensive Care Solutions had a proven track record of helping some of America’s best known hospitals and orthopedic groups optimize their orthopedic service lines, develop optimal payment and risk-based strategies, and address such issues as co-management, gainsharing, bundled payments and ACO development.

Today, Performance Solutions has a team of over 60 consultants, clinicians, healthcare subject matter experts, actuaries, implementation specialists, project managers and analysts. With over 350 hospital assessments and over 260 service line implementations as our knowledge base, our mission is more than just knowledge transfer, it is to foster transformational change at each of our client hospitals and physician practices. This is achieved by organizing service line structure, incorporating evidenced-based practice and demonstrating how to manage a service line through metrics.

Through collaborative advisory and implementation services, our clients achieve their strategic, clinical, operational and financial goals.
